Marketplace
Install ready-made agents, skills, MCP servers and plugins from the Hull Marketplace.
The Hull Marketplace has ready-made agents, skills, MCP servers and plugins. Installing an item writes ordinary Hull config files, so Hull picks it up the same way as anything you create yourself.
In the VS Code extension, open it with Browse Marketplace in Settings > Agent Behaviour.
What you can install
| Type | What it adds |
|---|---|
| Agent | A role with its own prompt, model and permissions. It appears in the agent picker. |
| Skill | Instructions and resources that Hull loads when a task needs them. |
| MCP server | Tools from an external service or a program on your machine. See MCP. |
| Plugin | A package that extends the Hull runtime. See Plugins. |
Project or global
Each install has a scope:
| Scope | Available in | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Project | This project only. Files go in the project's .hull/ folder. | The whole team should use it, or it's specific to this repository. |
| Global | Every project on this machine. Files go in ~/.config/hull/. | It's part of your personal workflow. |
Commit project files to share them with your team. If the same item exists in both scopes, the project copy wins.
Where files go
The install dialog shows the destination before it changes anything.
| Type | Project | Global |
|---|---|---|
| Agent | .hull/agent/<name>.md | ~/.config/hull/agent/<name>.md |
| Skill | .hull/skills/<name>/ | ~/.config/hull/skills/<name>/ |
| MCP server | mcp entry in the project's hull.jsonc | mcp entry in ~/.config/hull/hull.jsonc |
| Plugin | plugin entry in the project's hull.jsonc | plugin entry in ~/.config/hull/hull.jsonc |
If you already have a config file, such as hull.json, Hull adds the entry there instead of creating a new file. Your other settings are kept.
Some MCP servers need API keys or tokens. Project config is often committed, so use environment variables for secrets and check the file before you commit it.
MCP servers and permissions
- A local MCP server runs a command on your machine.
- A remote MCP server sends requests to an external service.
- Installing a server makes its tools available. It doesn't approve them: MCP tools follow your permission rules.
Check the item's author, source, requirements and tools before you install it.
Remove an item
An item can be installed in both scopes. Its card shows each installed scope with its own remove action, so removing the project copy leaves the global one in place.
After you install or remove an item, Hull reloads its config. Running sessions may restart so they don't keep using an outdated set of tools.
