Quickstart

Go from install to your first completed task with Hull.

This guide takes you from a fresh install to a finished change. Pick the surface you want to start with. You can switch later; your Hull account works across all of them.

Install and sign in

Download Hull Desktop and open it. The welcome screen walks you through signing in and adding a project.

Start a session

Choose New session (⌘ N, or Ctrl N on Windows and Linux) and pick the project to work in.

Describe the task

Type what you want in the composer and press Enter. Use @ to point the agent at specific files.

Review and ship

Approve actions as the agent asks, review the diff, then commit or open a pull request.

Your first session covers modes, approvals and reviewing changes in detail.

Try these first tasks

  • "Explain how this project is structured and where the entry point is."
  • "Add a unit test for the parseConfig function and make it pass."
  • "Fix the failing lint errors in src/ and summarise what you changed."

Be specific about the outcome you want, and mention the files or behaviour that matter.

Approvals

By default, most tools run without asking. Hull asks before it runs shell commands outside a short list of safe ones, reaches outside your project directory, or reads .env files. You can allow, ask or deny each tool. See Auto-approving actions and Permissions.
