Hull Fleet

Quick start

Create your first Hull Fleet town and watch agents work

This guide walks you through creating a town, connecting a repository and giving agents their first task.

Before you begin

  • A Hull account at app.withhull.com
  • A GitHub or GitLab repository you want agents to work on

1. Set up your town

Open Hull Fleet. If you don't have a town yet, the setup flow starts automatically.

  1. Name your town. The name is for your reference.

  2. Connect a repo. Pick a repository. If the Hull GitHub App isn't installed yet, click Install GitHub App and come back.

  3. Choose your models. Pick a preset, or pick a model for each role (Mayor, Refinery, Polecat):

    PresetModels
    Maximum Frontierhull-auto/frontier for every role
    Balancedhull-auto/frontier for review, hull-auto/balanced elsewhere
    Cost-Effectivehull-auto/balanced for every role
    Free Tierhull-auto/free for every role
  4. Give your first task, or skip it and start from the Mayor.

You can add more repositories later with New Rig.

By default, agents push with the Hull GitHub App's token, so commits show the app as the author. To make commits yours, open the town's Settings:

  • Commit Identity: set your name and email. You become the commit author and the agent is added as co-author, unless you turn on Disable AI co-authorship.
  • GitHub CLI: paste a personal access token so agents can use gh for pull requests, issues and reviews as you. Use a fine-grained token limited to the repositories the town works on.

Agents act on their own with whatever access you give them. Keep tokens scoped to the repositories the town needs.

3. Sling a task

The easiest way is to ask the Mayor:

"Add a CONTRIBUTING.md file with basic setup instructions"

You can also use Sling Work from the town.

4. Watch agents work

Open the rig page to follow the task:

  1. A bead appears in the open column.
  2. A polecat picks it up and it moves to In Progress.
  3. The polecat makes changes and pushes a branch.
  4. The bead moves to In Review while the refinery checks the work.
  5. The refinery merges or opens a pull request, depending on your merge strategy.
  6. The bead closes.

How long this takes depends on the task and the models you chose.

5. Talk to the Mayor

Open the Mayor tab at the bottom of the town. Try:

  • "What's the status of the town?"
  • "Create a convoy to add unit tests for the auth module"
  • "What settings should I change for faster reviews?"
