Slack

Mention @hull in Slack to ask about your code or start a cloud agent.

Hull for Slack brings Hull into your workspace. Mention @hull in a channel or send it a direct message to ask questions about your repositories, debug an error, or turn a thread into a pull request.

When you message Hull, it:

  • Reads the thread for context, including attached images, PDFs and text files.
  • Answers directly when it can.
  • Starts a cloud agent on the right GitHub repository or GitLab project when the request needs code changes, then posts the result and a session link back in the thread.

Plans

Hull for Slack uses your AI allowance like any other Hull surface, and code changes run as cloud agents, which are available on paid plans with included Small runtime hours. Organization installs need an active subscription or trial. See withhull.com/pricing.

Set up

Connect GitHub or GitLab on the Integrations page so Hull can read and change your repositories. See Integrations.

Open Integrations > Slack in your personal or organization dashboard and click Connect Slack. You can also start from app.withhull.com/get-started/slack.

Approve the Hull app in Slack. A Slack workspace can be connected to one Hull account or organization.

The first time you message Hull, it asks you to link your Slack user to your Hull account. Click Link Account and sign in.

To use Hull in a channel, invite or mention @hull there.

Use Hull in Slack

Ask about your codebase

@hull what does the UserService class do in our backend repo?

Turn a discussion into a pull request

When a thread lands on a fix, ask Hull to make it:

@hull based on this thread, implement the fix for the null pointer exception in the order service

Hull starts a cloud agent that creates a branch, commits the change and opens a pull request or merge request.

Make the same change in several repositories

@hull apply this fix in the api, web and docs repos

Debug an error

Paste an error or stack trace and ask what's causing it.

Direct messages and channels

  • Direct messages keep the conversation private to you.
  • Channel mentions let the whole team follow the work in the thread.

Choose the model

Open Integrations > Slack and select the model Hull uses to respond to Slack messages. The default is Auto Frontier, Hull Gateway's Auto option for the most capable models. In an organization, the choice is limited to the models your organization allows. The change applies to the next request.

Tips

  • Name the repository when you have several connected.
  • Point at specific files, functions or errors.
  • Keep related requests in one thread so Hull has the full context.

Troubleshooting

Hull doesn't respond. Check that Hull for Slack is connected in Integrations > Slack and that Hull has been invited to the channel. Use Test Connection on that page to check the install.

Hull asks me to link my account. Click Link Account and sign in with the Hull account that owns the integration, or one in that organization.

Hull can't find my repository. Confirm the repository is accessible through your GitHub or GitLab connection on the Integrations page.
