Auto triage and auto fix
Classify, label and de-duplicate new GitHub issues, then open fix pull requests automatically.
Auto Triage reads every new GitHub issue in the repositories you choose. It checks for duplicates, classifies the issue, and applies labels from your repository. Auto Fix picks up issues labeled hull-auto-fix and opens a pull request with a fix, using a cloud agent.
Both work with GitHub repositories connected through the HullConnect GitHub App. See Connect GitHub.
Auto triage
What it does
When an issue is opened or reopened, Auto Triage:
-
Checks for duplicates. It compares the issue with issues it has already triaged in the repository. If it finds a close match, it comments with a link to the original issue and its similarity score, and labels the new issue
hull-triagedandhull-duplicate. It doesn't close the issue. -
Classifies the issue as one of:
Classification Meaning bug Existing behavior is broken: stack traces, errors or clear reproduction steps. feature A request for new functionality or an enhancement. question A request for help or clarification, or a documentation gap. unclear Not enough information to tell what the reporter wants. Each result includes a confidence score, a short summary of what the reporter wants, and the model's reasoning.
-
Applies labels.
hull-triagedgoes on every triaged issue. The model can add more labels, but only ones that already exist in your repository. -
Flags fixable issues. Bugs and feature requests classified with high confidence also get
hull-auto-fix, which Auto Fix can act on.
Turn it on
Open Auto Triage in your personal or organization dashboard.
Turn on Enable AI Auto Triage.
Choose the AI Model and, under Repository Selection, all repositories or selected repositories.
Optionally set Skip Labels and Required Labels, then click Save Configuration.
Create the hull-triaged, hull-duplicate and hull-auto-fix labels in your repositories so they display consistently.
Label filters
| Setting | Effect |
|---|---|
| Skip Labels | Issues that already carry any of these labels are ignored. Useful for wontfix or on-hold. |
| Required Labels | Only issues that carry all of these labels are triaged. Useful for opt-in flows such as needs-triage. |
Hull never applies a skip or required label itself, so those labels stay under your control. Don't add Hull's own labels to the skip list.
Triage tickets
Each run is recorded as a ticket on the Auto Triage page. Filter tickets by status or classification, see the classification, confidence, summary and reasoning, and retry a failed ticket.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| pending | Queued. |
| analyzing | The model is processing the issue. |
| actioned | Done: labels applied, and a duplicate comment posted if needed. |
| failed | Something went wrong. The ticket shows the error, and you can retry. |
| skipped | The issue didn't match your repository or label settings. |
Auto fix
Auto Fix turns labeled issues into pull requests.
Turn it on
- Open Auto Fix in your personal or organization dashboard.
- Turn on Enable AI Auto Fix.
- Choose repositories, and optionally skip and required labels.
- Set the PR Title Template (for example
Fix #{issue_number}: {issue_title}), an optional PR Body Template, the PR Base Branch and optional Custom Instructions. - Click Save Configuration.
Hull then starts a cloud agent for each GitHub issue labeled hull-auto-fix, whether Auto Triage or a person added the label, and opens a pull request with the fix.
Fix review comments
Turn on Fix PR Review Comments to let Hull respond to @hull fix mentions in pull request review comments. Hull makes a change scoped to that comment and pushes it to the PR. Only people with write access to the repository can trigger it. Code review comments include this command so you can apply a suggested fix in one reply.
Plans
Auto triage and auto fix use your AI allowance, and auto fix runs cloud agents, which are available on paid plans with included Small runtime hours. See withhull.com/pricing.
