Deploy

Build and host a site from a GitHub repository, with automatic redeploys on push.

Hull Deploy builds a site from a GitHub repository and branch and hosts it at a d.withhull.com address. Every push to that branch redeploys it, so it works well for prototypes, previews and staging environments.

Plans

Deploy is available on paid plans. If your account or organization has never had a paid subscription, creating a deployment asks you to subscribe first. See withhull.com/pricing.

Supported projects

Hull detects the project type when it builds:

  • Next.js
  • Astro
  • Hugo
  • Jekyll
  • Eleventy
  • Plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript

If no other type is detected, Hull builds the project as Next.js.

Deploy doesn't host databases. Connect to an external database through environment variables.

Create a deployment

Connect GitHub on the Integrations page. See Connect GitHub.

Open Deploy at app.withhull.com/deploy, or in your organization's sidebar, and click New Deployment.

On the Repository tab, choose the GitHub connection, the repository and the branch. The default branch is preselected.

Optionally add environment variables on the Environment tab. Mark sensitive values as secrets.

Click Deploy. Hull builds the project and streams the build log. When it finishes you get the deployment URL.

After you deploy

  • Automatic redeploys: each push to the deployed branch starts a new build.
  • Manual redeploys: redeploy from the deployment's page at any time.
  • Build logs: open a deployment to see its build history and logs.
  • URL: deployments are served at <slug>.d.withhull.com. You can rename the slug if the new name is free.
  • Delete: remove a deployment from its page when you no longer need it.

Environment variables

Add variables when you create the deployment. Values are encrypted before they're stored and decrypted only by the builder. Keys can be up to 255 characters and values up to 5,120 characters.

Password protection

Organization deployments can be protected with a password on the Password tab, so only people with the password can open the site.
