Common questions about what Hull is and how it works.
What is Hull?
Hull is an agentic engineering platform. Agents work in your repositories: they read the code to understand the project, make changes, run your checks and open pull requests. You can use Hull from Hull Desktop, the Hull CLI, VS Code, JetBrains, cloud agents, mobile and Slack.
What can the agent do?
Depending on the permissions you give it, the agent can:
- Read, create, edit and delete files in your project.
- Run shell commands, such as builds, tests and linters.
- Search your codebase and the web.
- Use external tools through the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
- Create commits and pull requests.
You choose which actions run automatically and which need your approval. See Permissions.
Is Hull free?
There is a Free plan with Hull Code and CLI access and a limited evaluation of managed AI and cloud agents. Starter and Pro add a monthly AI allowance, cloud runtime and more. See Plans and usage.
You can also connect your own provider keys or run local models. Those requests are billed by your provider, not by Hull.
Which models can I use?
With a Hull account, Auto picks a model for each task through the Hull Gateway. You can also choose a specific model where your plan supports it, or connect your own provider. See Models.
Does Hull train on my code?
Hull uses your code to complete the tasks you give it. What happens to prompts sent to a model depends on that model's provider. To hide models whose providers may use prompts for training, turn on Hide Prompt-Training Models. See Settings.
