Code actions
Send selected code, errors and terminal output to Hull from the VS Code editor and terminal.
Code actions let you hand Hull a piece of code or terminal output without copying and pasting. They're part of the VS Code extension.
In the editor
Select some code, then use either:
- the lightbulb for quick actions, or
- the right-click menu, under Hull Code.
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Add to Context | Adds the selection, with its file path and line numbers, to the current chat. Shortcut: Cmd+K Cmd+A (macOS) or Ctrl+K Ctrl+A (Windows and Linux). |
| Explain Code | Asks Hull to explain the selection. |
| Fix Code | Asks Hull to fix problems in the selection. |
| Improve Code | Asks Hull to suggest improvements. |
In the lightbulb menu these appear as Add to Hull Code, plus Fix with Hull Code when the selection has errors or warnings, or Explain with Hull Code and Improve with Hull Code when it doesn't.
In the terminal
Select terminal output, right-click, and open Hull Code:
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Add Terminal Content to Context | Adds the selected output to the chat. |
| Fix This Command | Asks Hull to fix a failed command. |
| Explain This Command | Asks Hull to explain a command or its output. |
To have Hull write a command for you, run Generate Terminal Command (Cmd+Shift+G on macOS, Ctrl+Shift+G on Windows and Linux) and describe what you need.
Where actions go
Actions go to the chat you're using. If the Agent Manager is open and active, they go to its current session instead.
