Sessions and parallel work

Run several sessions at once, in your project or in separate Git worktrees.

You can run many sessions at the same time, in the same project or across projects. Each session keeps its own conversation, changes and terminals.

Local or worktree

Every session runs in one of two places. Choose it from Continue in when you start the session.

Local projectNew worktree
Where the agent worksYour project folder, on your current branchA separate Git checkout on its own branch
Good forOne task at a time, quick fixesSeveral tasks at once that must not interfere
Your working copyChanges appear in it directlyUntouched until you merge the branch

Worktrees are stored in ~/.hull/worktrees. Manage or delete them in Settings › Worktrees.

Started locally and want to isolate the work? Use Hand off to worktree to move the session onto its own branch.

Fork a session

Fork to try another approach without losing the current one. From the session menu choose Fork Into New Worktree or Fork Into Local, or fork from any message.

See many sessions at once

  • Split chat (⌘ \) shows two sessions side by side.
  • ⌘ 1 to ⌘ 9 jumps between sessions.
  • Projects in the sidebar shows your work as a board.

Subagents and side chats

The agent can hand parts of a task to subagents, which work in parallel and report back. Watch them in the Subagents panel, or with /subagents.

A side chat answers a quick question about the session without interrupting the agent's work.

Queue or steer

When you send a message while the agent is working:

  • Queue (default) holds your message until the agent finishes, then sends it.
  • Steer sends it now, so the agent takes it into account at its next step.

Each queued message can be steered, edited or deleted. Set the default in Settings › General › While the agent is working.
