Troubleshooting and privacy
Where Hull Desktop keeps its files and logs, how to recover, and what data it shares.
Where files live
Hull Desktop keeps its data in ~/.hull (or the folder in $HULL_HOME if you set it).
| Path | Contents |
|---|---|
~/.hull/userdata/settings.json | Your settings |
~/.hull/userdata/keybindings.json | Custom shortcuts |
~/.hull/userdata/state.sqlite | Sessions and app state |
~/.hull/userdata/attachments/ | Files you attached |
~/.hull/userdata/logs/ | Logs (see below) |
~/.hull/worktrees/ | Worktrees created for sessions |
Logs
Logs are in ~/.hull/userdata/logs/:
desktop-main.log: the app itselfserver.logandserver-child.log: the Hull runtimeprovider/events.log: model provider activityterminals/: terminal sessions
Logs rotate automatically. Include them when you contact support@withhull.com.
If the app won't start
If Hull Desktop can't start cleanly, it shows a recovery screen with these options:
- Try restore again
- Restore backup and restart
- Update Hull Code and restart
- Download latest release
The View menu also has Reload and Force Reload if the window stops responding.
Recovering work
- Archived sessions can be restored in Settings › Archived sessions.
- Worktrees can be restored or deleted in Settings › Worktrees.
- Changes can be undone with Revert to this message or checkpoints. See Review and ship.
Sandboxing
In Settings › Sandboxing you can run the agent's tools in a sandbox, deny or allow network access, list allowed network destinations, and add folders the agent may write to. See Sandboxing.
Privacy and telemetry
Hull Desktop sends anonymous usage events to help improve the product. They never include your prompts, code or file paths. To turn telemetry off, set this environment variable before starting the app:
export HULL_TELEMETRY_LEVEL=offYour code stays on your computer. The agent sends the context a task needs to the model provider you use.
