Plan mode
Agree on an approach before the agent changes any code.
In plan mode, the agent investigates and proposes a plan instead of editing files. Use it for features, refactors, or anything where you want to agree on the approach first.
Turn on plan mode
Type /plan, or choose Plan mode from the + menu in the composer, then describe what you want.
Review the plan
The agent reads your code and writes a plan. When it finishes, the session shows Plan ready.
Implement or refine
- Implement builds the plan in this session.
- Implement in a new thread starts a fresh session with the plan, which keeps the planning conversation separate.
- Refine asks for changes to the plan before anything is built.
Keep the plan
From the plan's menu, Export markdown file saves it anywhere, and Download to .plan folder saves it in your project so it can be reviewed with the code.
While the agent works on a plan, its task list shows what is done and what is next.
